AK Cross Country series heads to Nyandarua County

The second meet of the Athletics Kenya (AK) Cross Country season heads to Ol Kalau in Nyandarua County on Saturday, December 1 2018.

The meet started on a high note with the first weekend meet held in Machakos Teachers College last week with the Nyayo Forest Stadium now taking the mantle.

“Nyahururu is a high altitude area and we expect a lot of athletes. We are going to use this event to promote Cross Country in the area,” Nyandarua County athletics boss, Francis Kamau told Citizen Digital.

The event will include a children’s 4-kilometer race for kids between 11 and 13 years. Those between eight to 10 years will run a 2-kilometer event while those in the 6-8 age group will run one kilometer.

There will also be a fun 2-kilometer veterans’ race for over 50-year-old men and women over 45 years old.

“They are five events in a cross country meeting, but we have added five more events to help us nature talent”. Added Kamau

The third weekend meet will take place on the 15th December 2018 , just about a week before Christmas Holiday festival. The venue will be Kapsokwony , Mount Elgon of Bungoma County in AK Western Region.

The last meet is scheduled to be held at Kisii Golf Course, Kisii County on the 1st January 2018. This will pave way for the County Cross Country Championships then Regional Cross Country Championships at respective places there by the 26th January 2019

The National Cross Country Championships cum Trials for World Cross Country Championships will take place on 23rd February 2019, when the National Cross Country Team will be selected to represent the country at the world Cross Country Championships that will be held in the City of Aarhus in Denmark on 30th March 2019.
