Alger in town as Gor plot revenge

Gor Mahia’s opponents in the CAF Champions League USM Alger of Algeria jet in on Friday at 3:30pm, in readiness for the return match at Kasarani on Sunday.

Alger have an upper hand in the match having beaten Gor 4-1 a fortnight ago at the Stade Julie ’05 in Algiers, in the first leg.

Thus, KÓgalo tactician Steven Pollack has an uphill task to overcome the Algerians who also eliminated the Kenyan giants from the CAF Confederations Cup in 2018, in Algiers.

Pollack is however on record saying the record KPL giants are in a good shape to overturn the 4-1 deficit and progress to the next round, despite coming from a 2-1 win against KCB, a result he described as uninspiring.

‘’We cannot beat USMA with the kind of game we have played today. We need to do extra work in the field and each player needs to give more that 100% if we are to go places’’, said Pollack after the KCB win last weekend.

Pollack should be a worried man following the injuries of two strikers Nicholas Kikpirui and Ghanian import Francis Afriyie. The former missed the KCB clash while Afriye limped off after scoring the opener.

Ivorian import Gislein Yikpe Gnamian could thus debut in the continental competition having missed both Aigle Noir and USMA first leg ties, to lead the K’ogalo attack.

Defenders Philemon Otieno and Shafik Batambuze remain outside with long-term injuries.

Meanwhile USMA will have a feel of the Kasarani pitch tomorrow at 4:00pm, a day prior to the Sunday 4:00pm kick off.
