KCB  team manager Philip Wamae says they’re shifting focus to the Kenya Cup after winning the Floodlit title for a third year in a row.

The Kenya Cup champions defeated Menengai Oilers 23-14 over the weekend at the Impala Club, and the former KCB flanker expects a tough season ahead in the league.

“We want to make sure we maintain the right combinations we had in the Floodies hoping it will help us sustain through the season which I believe will be tough,” Wamae recounted to Citizen Digital after the weekend heroics.

The Curtis Olago coached side KCB won the Floodies in 2017, 2018 and 2019 adding to their other titles won in 2013, 2014 and 2015 as well as 2005 and 2007.

They will take a one week break before the 2019/2010 15s season begins on October 26 where they will start their title defence against newcomers Western Bulls.

“We’ll take each match at a time since no team is in the competition by luck but by hard work so ours is to make sure we get points in every match that comes our way through the season,” said Wamae.

KCB were able to acquire the services of Johnstone Olindi from Homeboyz, Shadon Munoko from varsity side Mean Machine, fly-half Levy Amunga from Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad and Patrick Ouko from Homeboyz.

“They are going to compete for a slot in the Kenya Cup squad provided that we’ve a good depth and make sure each player we acquired in the transfer window is delivering for us as well,” he added.

KCB won the Kenya cup after beating Kabras Sugar 23-15 in the final.
