All set for final AK meet in Narok

Narok Stadium is expected to host  the third and final leg of Athletics Kenya (AK) meet with the two-day championship set to start on Friday and run through to Saturday.

The AK South Rift  Region chairman John Wachira said the major athletics teams including the military, police have confirmed their attendance.

“We are expecting to host more participants than those we witnessed in Bungoma and Nyeri during the opening leg.

“We will have a doping awareness campaign as we understand how much of a menace the vice is for the country and our athletes,” Wachira told Citizen Digital.

Japheth Kemei, the Secretary General Athletics Kenya in South Rift Region echoed his chairman sentiments adding that they are putting everything in place before the Championship begins.

“Narok stadium is in good condition but we as the technical committee we have noted that one lap of the field exceeds the normal standards by 35.622 meters   and its contrary to IAAF rules, so we are making sure we cleared the mess for the competition to be free and fair.”

World cross country under 20 champion Beatrice Chebet will lead other participants in 5,000 women race being the first time to compete since bagging Gold medal in junior world cross country title in Aarhus Denmark in March.

Tough competition for Chebet will come from Mercy Cherono who is the world silver medalist in 5,000 m race where she will be also returning to track after almost three years.
