All set for Kisumu Term 2 ball games finale

The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) has rolled out a revised programme for the Term 2 finals in Kisumu where 680 boys and girls drawn from regional teams are expect to converge from August 1 to 5 to vie for national titles.

KSSSA’s secretariat has rolled out the preliminary programme for the finals with some changes to the initial plans.

According to the Deputy Secretary Robert Mukwana, Kisumu Boys and Kisumu Girls are the designated main venues contrary to the earlier scheduled Kisumu Polytechnic.

“Its easier to manage games within a school institution because the CDE’s and education officers are able to take charge. Every region will be bringing 48 boys, that is 20 for football, 20 for volleyball, badminton six, table tennis six and long tennis four. The same case will apply for girls, so the total contingent for every region will be 96.

“Football and volleyball will be played in Kisumu Boys, tennis at Kisumu Day while badminton will be played at Lions Secondary School. We have also set the villages to be at Kismu Boys and Kisumu Girs for boys and girls respectively,” Mukwana who hails from Nzoia Region.

He affirmed that KSSSA was content with the facilities the Lake Region has offered after keen assessment, in the build up for the Eldoret East Africa Region Games that Kenya will host, in Eldoret.

“Everything is set, the teams are expected in Kisumu on Sunday 31 July before the actual kick-offon Tuesday 2. Referees will precede the teams for their regular clinics from 30 July, which will be opened by the Ministry of Education at Kisumu boys to run for three days.

“Bearing in mind Kenya is hosting the East Africa games later this year, we will have four slots for football and volleyball in the championships, while accommodating three teams in the rest disciplines. We want to seize the opportunity to expose more students to the international competition, now that costs are reduced being at home,” Mukwana revealed.

The opening and closing ceremonies will take place at the Kisumu Moi Stadium.
