All systems go at the Coast as School Games begin

Preparations are in top gear for the Coast Region Secondary School Term 1 games to be held in Mombasa County  starting tomorrow (March 13).

According to Coast Secondary Schools Association secretary Omar Munga, they are is well prepared to deliver and schools are expected to report tomorrow at their required venues.

“Everything is on point and we are well prepared to host the games smoothly for the next four days,” said Munga.

He added that: “We are sure of having a good team from these games so as to fly Coast region’s flag high in national games.”

According to the pooling, basketball national defending champions Kaya Tiwi from Kwale County will battle for a national slot in Group B alongside Mama Ngina of Mombasa and Wiyoni Girls from Lamu County.

In boys’ category, Voi, Aga Khan Academy, Madogo from Tana River and Shimba Hills from Kwale are in Group A while hosts Shimo La Tewa are in Group B which also consists of Sokoke from Kilifi County, Mombasa Baptist and Lamu boys.

Handball defending champions Changamwe Secondary are listed in Group A of girls’ competition which has Majenjeni from Kilifi County, Mpeketoni of Lamu County and Shimba Hills of Kwale County while Group B has PUMA of Mombasa, Voi New White House from Taita Taveta and Munga.

Hosts Shimo La Tewa will begin title hunt in hockey against Tudor Day in a three team group before playing Kenyatta high from Taita Taveta County with a win in the opening match against Tudor Day will see them qualify for the semi-final place.

At the County games, Shimo La Tewa thrash Tudor Day 5-0 in the finals.

Draw for the rugby 7s will be held when teams arrive.

Coast region will host this year national games scheduled for April at the same venues.
