Mathare United got their mojo back beating Zoo Kericho 3-1 on Saturday in a Kenyan Premier League match at Camp Toyoyo to move to position two on the log.

Clifford Alwang bagged a brace while Cliff Nyakeya also put his name on the score sheet as the ‘Slum Boys’ enjoyed a fine afternoon.

The win hauled Matahre’s points tally to 30 from 17 matches, two points more than Ulinzi Stars and three behind table-topping Gor Mahia.

Though Alwanga shined, it was also an awkward moment for him as he turned the ball into his own net to hand Zoo a consolation goal.

Mathare could have taken the lead as early as the 15th minute but Alwanga’s effort inside the penalty area went straight to Zoo Keeper Vincent Misikhu.

Zoo responded through a corner taken by Isaac Kipyegon whose beautiful delivery was met by none of the heads in the aerial tussle.

The 2008 champions continued to probe and in the 27th minute, Nyakeya put Alwanga through and the forward made his mark on the score sheet sending Zoo goalie Misikhu the wrong way.

The visitors however equalized in the 35th minute after Alwanga put the ball into his own net in a desperate bid to clear the danger.

Meanwhile, in the FKF-Shield matches played on Saturday, holders AFC Leopards hit Shabana 2-1 at the Kisumu County Stadium as Wazito thumped Nairobi Water 3-0 , also at the Camp Toyoyo.
