Ambani moves to court to have AFC Leopards elections stopped

Former Ingwe striker Boniface Ambani has sued Kenya Premier League side AFC Leopards claiming that his constitutional rights have been violated and are still being violated by denying him chance to contest in the club’s election slated for 23rd of this month.

Ambani argues that the AFC Leopards’ Election Management Group (EMG) which is meant to run the said elections is not properly constituted.

The former player now wants the election slated for 23rd of June be temporarily stopped pending hearing and determination of the case.

“The applicant’s (Boniface Ambani) constitutional rights have been violated and are still being violated as he has been denied the chance to contest in the respondent’s(AFC Leopards) elections of the 23rd of June, 2019 despite, being fully qualified as per the elections by law,” read the certificate of urgency seen by Citizen Digital.

“The EMG, which was meant to run the said elections, was not properly constituted and thus illegally running and managing the said elections,” argued Ambani through his Lawyer Elvis Majani on June 4, 2019.

“That I have been precluded from participating in the forthcoming club’s election and subsequently vying for the positions of the club’s chairperson on the basis of the amended constitution which is yet to be passed,” reads court papers.

Alongside outgoing AFC Leopards caretaker committee chairman Maurice Amahwa, Ambani is among five candidates who have been locked out of the forthcoming club elections.

He claims that he is a member of the football club –AFC.

It is his argument that the decision to bar his candidacy in the said elections is a violation of political rights under the constitution.

KRA, CRB, HELB and certificate of goof conduct are some of the things EMG chairman Dr Geoffrey Serede disclosed that the five casualties did not comply with.

In February this year, Ambani rejected the club’s appointment as an assistant coach to Casa Mbungo demanding the team officials make an official statement before he could take up the offer.

Ín May 2019, Ambani lamented at the electoral clearance process terming it tiresome’. “A lot of things are still in darkness, it is hectic,” he said then.
