Ambitious Nakuru aims for more success after Driftwood heroics

Top Fry Nakuru RFC head coach Mitch Ocholla believes they can catch up with the current National Rugby Sevens Circuit leaders Homeboyz in the last two legs of the circuit.

After their 12-7 victory over second placed Mwamba in the finals of the 2018 Driftwood Sevens on Sunday, the Wanyores remain fourth with 64 points, 18 points behind the Deejayz.

“It’s a fantastic feeling winning the main cup finals. Now we go back to the drawing board and come up with mechanisms to enable us close the gap between us and the current leaders.”

Heading to Dala Sevens in Kisumu, Nakuru will be seeded top and Ocholla is full of praise for his boys ahead of the fifth round.

“For us it’s a continuous improvement and we really need to go up in Dala Sevens and win another trophy, so for us is just to show  our quality as we did in Mombasa.

“We won’t make a lot of changes in Dala Sevens but we expect stiff competition since every team will come up for us in the leg.”

It’s a better result for Nakuru who were finalists in the last outing of the Kabeberi sevens losing 19-7 against Homeboyz.

“It’s all about recovery and good preparation both mentally and psychologically and as soon as the players left Nakuru they knew that we were going to do something good, so winning six out of six matches it’s a plus for us.”

Nakuru won the Driftwood Sevens trophy two years ago when they went ahead to be crowned the overall circuit champions for the first time in their clubs history.
