Ambitious Vihiga lays out plans for life in KPL
The 2017 National Super League champions, Vihiga United, are aiming to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2018 season.
Vihiga defied the odds to emerge top of the second-tier league thus earning a ticket to the Kenyan Premier League. With their new found status, they are letting nothing to chance as they bid to begin life in the top-division with a bang.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Vihiga United assistant coach, Francis Xavier, said: “We are going to do some reinforcement in all departments, we will add one more goal keeper to the current three. This is because were really affected last season when all our keepers picked injuries leaving us with just one for the last rounds of matches.”
Xavier also says that the team will add two full backs and a utility defender. This, he says, is informed by the fact that one of their their midfielders, Soita Silicho, will be leaving for his University studies.
“We need one winger especially a left footed talent and a good striker,” he added.
The club also intends to drop some players and loan out others to create room for the new recruits.
Vihiga open their KPL campaign with Mathare United at the Bukhungu Stadium on February 3.
