Wazito FC have appointed Melis Medo as the Kenyan Premier League club’s new head coach, replacing Fred Ambani who was shown the door following a spate of poor results.
The American will be assisted by Hamisi Mohamed who had been named the interim coach after Ambani and the club’s Technical Director Stanley Okumbi were fired on Monday.
Wazito CEO Dennis Gicheru hailed the new coach stating that the club has full confidence in him. He added that the management will accord him all the necessary support to ensure that he is successful.
“After careful consideration, we settled on Melis Medo. He is a quality coach and having coached Kenyan Premier League teams before he understands Kenyan football well and we have full confidence in him.
“We believe that he will do a good job with the team. He will be accorded all the necessary support to ensure that he succeeds here,” Gicheru said.
Medo arrived in Kenya in 2017 before landing a role as the Nakumatt FC assistant coach a year later and was promoted after head coach Anthony Mwangi left the club.

He then had a brief stint at Sofapaka FC before returning to Nakumatt FC, now rebranded as Mount Kenya United where he oversaw their relegation from the top light last term in a season highlighted by their financial woes.
“I want to thank the club management for believing in me. I will do my best here to ensure that the team is successful.
“I understand the club’s philosophy and vision and I will work closely with everyone in the team to ensure that we succeed. I am excited about this new challenge and I promise to give my best,” Medo said.
