Amokachi rallies Africa to back Morocco’s World Cup bid

Nigerian football legend Daniel Amokachi believes the whole of Africa will rally Morocco in their bid to host the 2026 World Cup finals.

“Morocco is Africa and Africa is Morocco. It took Africa 100 years before it hosted the World Cup. We have another chance of hosting the 2026 edition and as a continent it will take us another 100 years before we host this event if we lose it,” the former Super Eagles great said in a press briefing.

This is the sixth time Morocco is contesting to host the high affinity event and Amokachi believes the northern Africa state is up to the task.

“Casablanca is a city that is strategically located in Morocco. There are 55 flights per day and I think this will enhance accessibility to stadium by players and even spectators,” he noted.

Amokachi is one of the five ambassadors who are going round the continent to rally the African countries football federations to support Morocco in her bid.

FKF president Nick Mwendwa promised to support the idea.

“We are happy to have Morocco contesting because in terms of infrastructure they are ready. Come June I will vote for Morocco and I know it will be advantageous to us. Where Africa goes we go,” he said.
