Amukowa ready for FKF electoral code amendment journey

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential aspirant Andrew Amukowa is elated with the decision by Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) to halt the football body’s national elections that were slated for December 7.

Amukowa, who came second in the 2016 February elections behind the current FKF president Nick Mwendwa, has termed the verdict by the SDT as fair noting it will give way for a level ground of competition in the elections.

According to the Rush FC chairman, Mwendwa had blocked them from vying by simply disregarding the laid down regulations and “scripting his own election code” favouring his re-election.

“Nick Mwendwa had blocked us, Kenyans are happy that justice prevailed at the SDT. You cannot stop Kenyans from voting for the candidate of their choice. We are now planning to sit down and plan as Western Region football stakeholders on the way forward as the implementation of the tribunal orders takes course,” Amukowa charged.

He continued: “After that we will go to Nairobi and meet our brothers there, to agree on how our camp that is opposed to the way Nick Mwendwa was handling the whole process will engage his team in restructuring the election code.”

Amukowa underscored the need of clubs participating in the election to comply with regulations of the Registrar of Societies, as part of the reforms before elections.

“Mwendwa had his own people from the many clubs, which have not complied with the registrar of societies. For the chairman, secretary and treasurer of the clubs to comply, they must have tax compliance certificate, CRB certificate, Ethic and Anti-corruption clearance letter, HELB certificate and certificate of good conduct,” he added.

Amukowa is among the FKF presidential aspirants who refused to present their nomination papers to the now annulled Electoral Board, alongside former Nairobi County Speaker Alex Ole Magelo, former Vihiga County Governor Moses Akaranga and current Gor Mahia CEO Omondi Aduda, citing a “manipulated electoral code.”
