Anti-doping campaign to feature prominently at Vihiga County Games

The fight against doping menace is set to dominate the Vihiga County Secondary Schools Sports Association Games ((VCSSSA) which gets underway on Thursday across various venues in the county.

The association chairman Nelson Indumwa aware of the burden the doping menace has brought to the country has called on all participants to maintain high level of discipline in the Term One games running under “No to Doping” theme.

Indumwa urged the students to stay clean and win clean.

“Our official rallying call this year is “No to Doping”. We request our teachers to ensure their students maintain discipline,” Indumwa told Citizen Digital.

Meanwhile hockey girls defending champions Tigoi who also won regional title last term are out to defend their crown.

Head coach Moses Wawire is upbeat that they have had enough preparations compared to recent years.
Tigoi won last year’s county title on 12 points followed by Madira Girls on five.

This year’s Term One games include rugby sevens and 15 aside where defending champions Chavakali Boys High School will be looking forward to retaining the crown. Chakavali will also put their boys’ basketball title on the line as Tigoi Girls aim to retain the gong in the women category.

Other champions include Mbale Boys and Ebusakami Girls (handball) and Vihiga Boys (hockey).
Other disciplines on the menu include swimming and athletics. Over 1500 students will be taking part in the games.
