Appeals Court upholds Muhoroni Youth relegation

Muhoroni Youth FC have suffered a fresh blow after the Appeals Court in Kisumu dismissed its appeal challenging a High Court decision not to reinstate them back to the Kenyan Premier league (KPL).

Appellate Judge Justice Kathurima M’inoti said the grounds sought by the club would inconvenience the current KPL and National Super League (NSL) seasons which are now past the mid-season.

Justice Kathurima agreed with the trial court in Kisumu that held that the application had been overtaken by events since Vihiga and Wazito FC who finished top had already been promoted to the KPL.

Muhoroni, who were relegated from the top flight last year, had gone to court seeking to have their demotion from the KPL overturned following a protracted FKF Clubs Licensing standoff.

In their argument, Muhoroni claimed their late inclusion into the new season by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) had hurt their KPL survival chances.

Along with Sofapaka FC, Muhoroni had been forced to start their campaigns close to a month later than other KPL clubs after they had both been relegated for failing to meet licensing requirements.

Muhoroni were relegated to the NSL at the end of the 2017 season after a horrific run in which they finished at the tail-end of the 18-team table on 25 points from 34 matches.
