Aprot, Nyairera to lead Prisons Cross Country fields

Olympics fourth finisher and African women 10000m gold medallist Alice Aprot will lead the line during the inter-regional Prisons Cross country set to be held at Nairobi’s Uhuru Gardens on Saturday.

Margaret Nyairera Wambui who pocketed bronze in a personal best of 1:56.89 in the women 800m in Rio is the other big name set to feature at the annual event that will be used to select a formidable team to represent Kenya Prisons during the national cross country next month.

According to the Athletics Kenya (AK) Prisons PRO Stephen Mwaniki, current recruits including Rio Olympian and Africa Cross Country bronze medallist Charles Muneira are expected to light up the event where teams will be drawn from all the regions in the country.

“The teams from the regions will arrive from Thursday this week and we expect stiff competition from the current recruits who have top cross country runners like Muneria who won this year’s cross country series in Machakos,” Mwaniki said.

He added former Commonwealth champion Silas Kiplagat is set to participate in a new event, the 4x2km relays.

Saturday Programme:

0930hrs-10km senior women

1030hrs-10km senior men

1130 4x2km mixed relays
