Arnold Origi in England for Crystal Palace trials

English Premier League side Crystal Palace are considering a move for former Kenyan international and Lillestrom goalkeeper Arnold Origi.

The 34-year-old missed his Norwegian club’s first training session to attend trials at the Selhurst Park amid reports his former employers are convinced the move will push through.

“I think he has played his last match for us. We wish him luck for his career,” Lillestrom trainer Arne Erlandsen was quoted by a local website.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson is keen to secure a new deputy for first choice goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey given that understudy and club stalwart Julian Speroni, now 38, is approaching his career sunset.

“Arnold is not training with us because he has requested permission to work out with a club in England. He is there for an indefinite period,” Lillestrom sporting director Simon Mesfin said.

Origi joined Lillestrom in 2013 having enjoyed stints FC Moss, Fredrikstad and Ullensaker/Kisa in the Norwegian league.

Origi who has been capped 29 times with the Harambee Stars, secured his first piece of silverware since leaving Tusker FC over a decade ago in a 3-2 victory over Sarpsborg 08 in the NM-Cup final last year.

He was voted man of the match for his heroic performance in the upset victory.

Origi has one year left of the contract with Lillestrøm, but has received written permission from the club to work out with clubs in England.

The custodian is Liverpool and Belgium striker Divock Origi’s first cousin. His father, Austin Oduor, played for Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia FC.
