Arsenal in “advanced” negotiations with PSG defender Kurzawa

PSG defender Layvin Kurzawa will join Arsenal on a free transfer this summer when his contract expires, reports in France claim.

The French left-back is down the pecking order at the Parc des Princes, with Juan Bernat the first choice under Thomas Tuchel, and the Gunners could be ready to offer him an escape route.

The 27-year-old is said to be in ‘advanced negotiations’ with the Emirates hierarchy, so much so that the two parties have already agreed a five-year contract, according to France Football.

Kurzawa’s current deal with the French champions expires at the end of the season, which means he is allowed to talk to other clubs this month ahead of a possible summer move.

The report claims Kurzawa turned down approaches from Inter Milan in favour of moving to north London.

It added that while talks are progressing well, he is yet to agree on a signing-on fee, but that he should become an Arsenal player if everything continues to go smoothly.

Arsenal signed Kieran Tierney last summer hoping to bolster their options at left-back, but he has missed the majority of the season through injury.

Nacho Monreal has since departed for Real Sociedad, leaving Arsenal with just one natural left-sided full-back – but with former Celtic man Tierney missing most of the campaign, Bukayo Saka has been forced to play there out of position.

The Gunners are crying out for cover as soon as possible, but may choose to wait it out until the summer in order to get the cheapest deal possible.

Kurzawa would provide solid depth as a French international and an experienced player who has won Ligue 1 three times as well as three French Cups.

He joined PSG from Monaco in 2015, and has since played 100 times for the Parisians, but his time at the club looks to be nearing its end. He has started just six games for them this season, with five appearances from the bench.

Arsenal’s defensive woes have been well documented this season, with the Gunners conceding 32 goals in the league, two fewer than Watford. Head coach Mikel Arteta has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his numbers at the back.
