Arsenal ready to splash £68M to sign Napoli star – Reports

Arsenal has expressed willingness to splash a whopping £68 million to land Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to report on Mirror.

The player has been linked to the Gunner for the last few transfers though the move will have to be put on hold until summer transfer window, in a statement quoted by Italian outlet Calciomercato.

The £68 million tag is the release clause for Higuain with the transfer fee set to go up with add-ons.

The 27-year-old has scored seven goals in nine Serie A games so far this season.

Arsenal are also linked with a move for Real Madrid player Isco, who is also a target for London rival Chelsea.

According to Fichajes, a Spanish paper, the Gunners are said to be moving for the midfielder who has openly said he is unhappy at the Santiago Bernabeu.

With reports pointing at the imminent departure of Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho, who is said to be a big fan of Isco, it is unclear whether Chelsea will press on with the move, with their withdrawal leaving Arsenal as the probably destination for the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger has challenged his second choice team to prove their worth and help the club win trophies.

Speaking ahead of their Capital One Cup encounter at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, Wenger said it is the job of a football, in whatever category to do his best when given a chance to play.

“We want the players who come in to the team to show they are able to make the squad successful, and do absolutely everything to help us win. That’s the job of a footballer. When you get the chance, you have to be ready,” Mourinho said.

The match will offer Arsenal a chance to extend their good run that has seen them win their last four premier league matches.
