Riyad Mahrez has been left in transfer limbo with Arsenal unwilling to meet Leicester’s £50m valuation.

The north London side have held talks with the Foxes over signing the former PFA Player of the Year, but do not want to pay more than £35m for the Algerian international.

Mahrez has handed in a transfer request and is understood to have an agreement with Leicester that he will be allowed to leave this summer after ignoring interest from the likes of Barcelona last year.

But with a huge gap in valuation between the two Premier League sides, he is expected to attend the start of pre-season training with Leicester on Friday despite the question marks over his future.

Arsenal are still prioritising the signing of Thomas Lemar from Monaco, but his £80m asking price is an issue, meaning they have turned their attention to Mahrez.

Inter Milan want to make Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, the “poster boy” for the club’s new era.

French side Marseille are leading contenders to sign Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, in a £24.7m deal after the Gunners completed a club record deal for Alexandre Lacazette.

Arsenal have made a fresh €45m bid for Monaco’s Lemar now that Lacazette has officially joined.

The gunners have also announced Per Mertesacker will lead the club’s academy from next season.

Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson has told friends he would have signed former Chelsea defender John Terry on a free transfer if he was still Manchester United manager.

United used Paul Pogba’s friendship with Romelu Lukaku to help convince him to joinLukaku’s imminent £75m switch to Old Trafford has accelerated Wayne Rooney’s move to Everton.

Manchester City

Dani Alves will arrive in England next week and seal his free transfer to Manchester City. The Brazilian is ready to sign a two-year deal with Pep Guardiola’s men ahead of the pre-season tour.

Leicester are moving closer to signing Kelechi Iheanacho from Man City in a £25million deal, but the deal could still take a few weeks to be finalised with the player on holiday.

Gael Clichy has joined Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir on a free transfer following his departure from City. He is expected to sign a three-year deal at the club.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has registered his interest in City’s Fabian Delph and will not stand in Jonathan Walters’ way after accepting he wants to join Burnley.

Manager Antonio Conte’s future at Chelsea is in doubt because the Italian is furious at the club’s summer transfer failings.

The blues could face a striker crisis after Diego Costa, started to say his goodbyes to his team-mates, having been told he is not part of Conte’s plans for next season.

Chelsea have meanwhile not ruled out a swap deal between Eden Hazard and Real Madrid star James Rodríguez.

Other Premier League clubs

Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer wants to replace Steve Mandanda with Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen. The France international has been tipped to return to Marseille this summer.

Naby Keita appears set to stay in Germany with his employers RB Leipzig saying none of their key players are for sale.

Swansea City are expecting a £32m bid from Everton for star Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Real Madrid have told Kylian Mbappe they will bring him to the Bernabeu, but only after they have concluded the sales of Man United’s target Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez.

Paris St. Germain are unwilling to negotiate with Barcelona over star and ‘prisoner’ Marco Verratti, the president of the Catalan club has claimed. The Italian has been linked with Barca throughout the summer, with La Liga rivals Madrid also reported to be interested in the player.

Barcelona’s €20m (£17m) bid for midfielder Paulinho rejected by the player’s Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande this week.
