Asante Kotoko of Ghana jet in, ready for Sharks attack

Asante Kotoko FC from Ghana are in town ahead of their CAF -Confederations Cup match against Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday.

The two sides go neck-and-neck at the Kasarani Stadium from 3pm.

A contingent of 18 players and seven officials landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Wednesday at 1025hrs after a journey that took them through the Ethiopia capital Addis Ababa from where they connected to Nairobi.

According to Football Kenya Federation’s Communications Manager Barry Otieno, The Porcupine Warriors, as the West Africans are fondly known, will reside at the City Lodge Hotel.

Star midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei who won the 2015 Caf- Champions League with Congolese powerhouse TP Mzembe is among the marquee names in the ‘CK’ Akonnor’s coached squad whom Sharks will have to watch out for.

Captain Amos Frimpong, who scored twice in Sunday’s 3-0 friendly win over Ghana’s national U-23 side, is also in the team, as are veteran midfielder Jordan Opoku and recent signing Martin Antwi.

Naby Laye Keita who was acquired from Guinea together with Burkina Faso international Sogne Yacouba and Fredrick Boateng are expected to lead Kotoko’s line in the Saturday match.

Meanwhile, Gabon referee Pierre Ghislain Atcho will handle the match assisted by compatriots Theophile Vinga (first assistant), Angelo Malekou Mambana (second assistant) and Isidore Carlos Nze fourth official).

Maxwell Mtonga from Malawi has been appointed match commissioner while Ivorian Songuifolo Yeo will be the referee assessor. The match officials are expected tomorrow.
