Aston Villa sack manager Tim Sherwood

Aston Villa have sacked manager Tim Sherwood after eights months in charge after a 2-1 defeat by Swansea on Saturday.

This was Aston Villa’s sixth straight defeat in the league putting them at 19th in the Premier League table.

In a statement: “The board believes the results on the pitch were simply not good enough and that a change is imperative.”

Kevin MacDonald, the Under 21 manager will take charge of the club on interim basis.

Sherwood was appointed to take charge of Aston Villa in February, taking the club to the FA Cup final and a 17th place finish in his first season.

Villa has only won one match on ten league matches this season.

“We would wish to express our sincere thanks for all his efforts during a difficult period last season and for many positive contributions he has made to the entire football set-up,” read the statement.

Sherwood has only overseen just 28 games in charge, in all competitions, the shortest spell of any permanent Villa manager.
