Athletics Kenya releases calendar in Rio 2016 build-up

Athletics Kenya on Thursday released a calendar of events in the build-up to this year’s Olympics Games in Rio, Brazil.

AK chairman Mr. Jackson Tuwei said the body will hold different events including the National Cross Country that also serves as IAAF permit to be held on February 13^th, 2016.

AK further said that it will select the team which will represent Kenya in the Africa Cross Country Championships in Yaoundé, Cameroon in March this year. Several countries have confirmed attendance including Kenya’s arch rivals Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania Rwanda, Sudan and Burundi.

Following the series of competitive events around the world, AK is expected to name the final team for the World Indoors Championships on February 23^rd.

The chairman also urged Kenyans to come out in large numbers to attend the fun filled event, which will be free of charge.

However, IAAF inspection team is expected in the country early February and will be accompanied by a team of both technical and organizational delegates who will assess Kenya’s preparedness to host the IAAF Under 18 World Championships in July next year.
