Australia signs Pocock, Beale in Rugby Union ‘coup’

Flanker David Pocock and utility back Kurtley Beale have re-signed their national contracts in a coup for the Australian Rugby Union which is battling to stem a flow of players heading overseas after the World Cup.

Former captain Pocock has been retained until the end of 2016 and will continue to play for the Canberra-based ACT Brumbies, while Beale will remain in Australia with the New South Wales Waratahs for another two years.

“I think the playing groups in both teams, at the Waratahs and at the Wallabies, I think that it’s a really good talented bunch of boys and to be a part of that and in the mix of that obviously oozes excitement and obviously, there’s a lot of belief around the group in trying to achieve special things,” said Beale

Pocock re-commits to Australian rugby after an outstanding return to the Wallabies fold this season following two frustrating years battling a pair of knee reconstructions.

“It’s, I guess good to repay the faith that the Brumbies have shown me and, you know, I’ve had amazing support form a number of people at the organisation, family and friends. so to get out there and string season together and play some good rugby is satisfying,” said Pocock.

Pocock and Beale are both set to play in their second World Cups in England.
