Ayodi backs Kenya Sevens to shine in Spain

Kenyan rugby player Oscar Ayodi has backed the national team ‘Shujaa’ to shine in the invitational Madrid Sevens tournament in Spain terming the young and energetic players in the squad as the ”pillar of the team”.

Speaking exclusively to Citizen Digital, Ayodi who has captained the team in different competitions has at the same time called upon the players and the rugby union to support coach Innocent Simiyu for the betterment of the national team.

He praised Namcos as ”the best coach” to lead the game in the country after reaching 100 points in a world circuit.

“The blend of young and new players will help them to perform well as their game is not known out there,” said Ayodi.

He added, “Namcos has proven himself as a good coach, he just needs backing from his playing unit and the Union to deliver.”

The Shujaa squad will be co captained by Nelson Oyoo and Herman Humuwa in the inter-regional high-performance events that will be held in Madrid.

Simiyu left out Kenya’s all time try top scorer Collins Injera from the trip that is being hosted by the Rugby Federation of Spain and supported by World Rugby.

The Kenya team arrived in the Spanish capital Monday ready for the tournament which will feature up to 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams participating across two successive weekends starting 20/21 February.
