Harambee Stars head coach Francis Kimanzi has called up 16 local based players for two open camps ahead of the upcoming Comoros 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match.

The camps have been scheduled for March 9 and 10, and 16and 17 respectively, at the Nyayo National Stadium.

AFC Leopards’ Collins Shicheje is among the first time call-ups in the senior team, alongside KCB’s Baraka Badi as in form Leopards striker Elvis Rupia makes a return into the team.

The coach will then name foreign based players who will join the local based players for residential training ahead of the back to back qualifiers.

Stars will face Comoros at home on March 25, before travelling for the return match away set for March 29.

Tusker goalkeeper Robert Mboya has also been listed, with Kariobangi Sharks custodian Brian Bwire who missed the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge with an injury also getting the nod.

Kenya is in Group G of the AFCON qualifiers alongside seven-time champions Egypt, Togo and their next opponents Comoros.

Despite their low rank, Comoros lead the group with four points from a win over Togo and a draw against Egypt. Kenya is tied with Egypt after each getting twp draws, against each other with Harambee Stars reaping their second from Togo who are last with just one.
