High riding Nakumatt FC were given a rude reality check in the Gotv Shield final, losing 4-2 to a well drilled Bandari FC at the Nyayo National stadium.

Speaking after the match, Bandari coach Twahir Muhiddin revealed that his game plan was to get a goal against Nakumatt since they came to the match with their minds set on penalties.

“We had studied Nakumatt FC very well. We knew their strategy was to waste time and push for penalties. Against Sony Sugar they were just lucky and against Gor Mahia, Gor were not in the frame of mind to play that game after a long season and a long break between the quarter final and the semifinal,” he said.

The former Harambee Stars coach said that he will recruit young but experienced players in the December transfer window to boost the squad ahead of the continental football next season.

Nakumatt found themselves trailing 4-0 before halftime, prompting a change in the goalkeepers as Wycliffe Kasaya was withdrawn to be replaced by Zamu Adisa.

Bandari went ahead with a 10th minute penalty awarded after David King’atua was hacked in the box. Anthony Kimani slotted in for 1-0. In the 20th minute, Bandari were 2-0 up as Musa Mudde’s bicycle from just inside the box caught Kasaya on the flat foot.

Two minutes later George Abege made it 3-0 as Nakumatt had no response to the Bandari attacks.  Substitute Masoud Juma scored a lovely goal just eight minutes after his inclusion to gift his team a comfortable 4-0 lead going into the half time break.

Second half substitute Martin Imbalambala and midfielder Tyrone Owino scored Nakumatt’s consolation goal in the 84th and 90th minutes respectively. Bandari were then crowned domestic cup champions, and will now face Congolese club St. Eloi Lupopo in the opening group match of the 2016 CAF Confederations Cup.
