Bandari go hi-tech to keep charges fit

With Covid- 19 having crippled sports operations and Kenyan Premier League clubs unable to resume team training thanks to strict social distancing and health measures rolled out by the Government, Bandari FC head coach Ken Odhiambo has turned to technology to keep his charges in shape.

In training programmes shared online via Group WhatsApp, Odhiambo has been outlining the training schedule to be undertaken by each player.

Bandari’s captain Shaban Kenga says the sessions have come in handy as each player has to give daily reports.

“We are under the progamme which we were all provided by the coach through the group. It’s a daily routine [from Monday-Friday],”he said.  “On my part I always keep my fitness levels by training in the house or by  looking for appropriate field for outdoor exercises,” Kenga told Citizen Digital.

FKF ended the league last month, declaring Gor Mahia champions, a decision which has since been contested at the Sports Disputes Tribunal, and it remains unclear when the 2020/2021 season will begin.

On the other hand, Kenga hailed Bandari’s move not to effect pay cuts on the players’ salaries during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We really thank the management. We have not had a situation where our salaries are not being disbursed, we are paid just as usual and this really needs an applause. It’s a difficult period for many families and we hope this will end soon. ’’

Kenga was handed the captain’s armband by interim coach Twahir Muhiddin following Felly Mulumba’s departure to Zimbabwean top side FC platinum
