Bandari handed walkover, Sharks deny Sofapaka

The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) turned the new year with the same blemish that dogged the previous one after Bandari FC were awarded a walkover following Nzoia Sugar’s failure to show up for the match.

Bandari were scheduled to host the round 15 clash at Mbaraki Stadium but the visitors failed to show up and the match officials gave out what is the sixth walkover in the KPL this season.

Following the turn of events, the hosts announced they will play a friendly against Coast Stima.

In a letter dated December 10 2019, Nzoia had indicated they do not have funds to honour upcoming fixtures and suggested a grace period until January 18 to sort out their finances.

It is a highlight of the biting financial constraints endured by KPL teams with players and officials going months without pay.

Last week, AFC Leopards head coach Casa Mbungo officially terminated his contract with the club after almost five months without pay.

In Machakos, Patrick Otieno scored a late equalizer as 10-man Kariobangi Sharks FC salvaged a point from their 2-2 draw with Sofapaka FC who had a goal ruled out for offside.
