After a dramatic week, Bandari FC were back in their winning spirit at home in Mombasa as they thumped Nakumatt FC 3-1 at the Mbaraki Sports Club to tighten their grip on second spot.

The Dockers’ previous Kenyan Premier League (KPL) encounter in Kericho had been soured by an ugly incident where a gunman allegedly threatened to shoot their captain Felly Mulumba after drawing 1-1 with hosts Zoo FC.

Bandari had gone into the clash with a dominant record against the visitors having never lost against and looked in the right kind of form to extend that record as William Wadri swept home the opener after a neat delivery from Faruk Wazza off the left flank.

William Muluya’s men carried that lead into the break but the tie was back level shortly after the restart thanks to in-form winger Joe Waithira’s equalizer.

Bandari won a penalty in the 70th and it was Mulumba who took on the responsibility, making no mistake from six- yards out to restore his side’s lead.

Shaban Kenga then put the result beyond doubt with only minutes left on the clock as Bandari moved seven points clear of AFC Leopards in second place behind champions Gor Mahia FC.

At the Awendo Green Stadium, Sony and Chemelil shared the spoils with goals in either half from Felix Ocholla and Steve Cisse settling the Sugar Derby.

Relegation threatened Chemelil will have themselves to blame for conceding late on after Ocholla had put them ahead from the spot in the 38th minute but a lapse in concentration allowed Cisse to leave it all even with 12 minutes left on the clock.

The result left Chemelil just a point above the relegation zone and could be sucked back into the dogfight if Vihiga United draw with Posta Rangers.
