Bandari run riot in thumbs-down to Muhiddin

Newly appointed care-taker coach, Ken Odhiambo, guided Bandari FC to their first win in nine in his first game in charge of the club since Twahir Muhiddin was sacked midweek as hapless Ushuru FC were thrashed 4-0 on Saturday in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).

The coast based side looked transformed at their Mbaraki Stadium backyard evoking suggestions the GOtv Shield-winning coach, Muhiddin had lost the dressing room by the time he was axed on Wednesday.

Dan Sserenkuma put in a man-of-the-match performance with a brace and an assist as Bandari stormed back to the top ten with 17 points as Ushuru slumped to a sixth defeat of the season.

It was an enthralling affair from start to finish with Bandari dictating matters from the get go as they served a reminder why many had tipped them to challenge for a first KPL title at the onset of the campaign before things went south.

Bandari signalled their intent early in the first half when Sserenkuma fired the coast-based side ahead after just six minutes with a perfectly placed shot.

Shaban Kenga had a chance to make it 2-0 a few minutes later but was brought down by Ushuru Defender David Otieno in the box with the referee pointing to the spot for a clear penalty.

Edwin Lavatsa could not convert as Shaban Odhoji in the Ushuru goal deftly saved the forward’s effort.

Anthony Kimani extended Bandari’s lead in the 35th after his fierce shot from outside the box arrowed to the top left corner and Ushuru’s keeper could do nothing but watch it go in.

Sserenkuma completed his double in the 42nd min after a brilliant inter-play saw Kenga release the 2014 KPL Player of the Year and top scorer through on goal and he nonchalantly beat Oyugi.

Things went from bad to worse for Ushuru in the second half as Sserenkuma turned provider for Lavatsa who made up for his missed penalty by slotting home Bandari’s fourth goal.

A lot could be asked about Bandari’s spectacular performance and whether this was a statement from the coast based side who looked nothing like the team that had endured an eight match winless streak stretching back to March under Muhiddin who also led them to the DStv/SuperSport Super Cup victory over champions Gor Mahia.
