Bandari maintained their second position in the Kenyan Premier League standings on 63 points after battling third-placed Sofapaka to a barren draw on a muddy Mbaraki Sports Club grounds Sunday.

Elsewhere, at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, Vihiga United’s relegation fears inched towards reality after losing 2-1 at home to visiting Western Stima.

The home side claimed the lead in the 53rd minute through Amos Kigadi before Stima drew level in the 77th minute through Kennedy ‘Kagogo’ Otieno.

Henry Onyango had the final word claiming the winner with nine minutes to time.

On a muddy surface at Mbaraki, despite Sofapaka being reduced to ten men, the Bernard Mwalala coached Bandari failed to capatilise on their numerical advantage in front of home supporters.

Bandari were well composed despite losing three open chances via Congolese Yema Mwana and Shaban kenga.

Yema received a through pass from William Wadri and went through Moussa Omar before being denied by Sofapaka goalie Benjamin Ndikumana.

Sofapaka were reduced to 10 men 20 minutes into the second half  after their keeper Ndikumana tackled Shaban Kenga outside the box and as a result man denying Kenga a goal scoring opportunity leaving the referee with no choice but to send him to early showers.

Bandari added more striking power with Wycliffe Ochomo and Darius Msagha introduced in place of Abdallah Hassan and Hamisi Mwinyi respectively but to no avail.

Following the outcome, Bandari are second with 63 points, four ahead of Sofapaka with one game to the end of the league, and are assured of finishing second for the second year running.

In another Kenyan Premier League match, KCB were held to a 2-2 draw by Ulinzi Stars .
