Bandari to bolster squad with fresh talent

Bandari FC head coach Bernard Mwalala will not focus on experienced players from rival Kenyan Premier League (KPL) during the transfer period, in his mission to strengthen the 2018 season runners up.

Save for a few low profile ones he has identified during the recently concluded season, the tactician will lay a strong foundation of emerging youth, to compliment last season’s squad.

Having been the first side to beat Champions Gor Mahia in the season and avoiding defeat in the entire KPL second round, the Dockers have been earmarked as one of the main contenders for the title next season.

“My philosophy has always been nurturing young players who are determined to succeed and are willing to work hard. I will operate in the same spirit when recruiting new players,” said the former Nzoia Sugar coach.

Thus, Bandari will conduct trials on October 26 to 28 at the Mbaraki Sports Club eying to rope in players in all departments.

“Every position in this team needs to be improved on. We have already identified a number of players who we think can improve our side. They have not been in the highlights for performance but they have the topflight. We believe the blend they bring can help us fight for titles next season,” added the former Kenyan international.

Finishing ahead of traditional heavyweights Tusker, AFC Leopards and Ulinzi Stars by amassing 62 points, is an achievement Mwalala wants to extend to titles.

“Our performance last season was fantastic. We need to pick from where we left, because we are not underdogs anymore. A lot is expected from us.

On season opener against Gor, Mwalala wants maximum points from his charges.

“Every game will be hard but for us it’s very important that we win the first match, and then the rest will follow.”

In the released fixtures for the 2018/2019 season on Monday, Bandari will host the 17-time champions at the Mbaraki Sports Club.
