Bandari upset Sofapaka, Wanga off the mark
Anthony Wambani hit a quick-fire double as Bandari FC upset last season’s Kenyan Premier League (KPL) runners-up Sofapaka FC 3-0 on Sunday.
The midfielder scored the opener just 11 minutes after kick-off and doubled his money five minutes later as the hosts endured a shocking start at the Narok County Stadium.
David Kingatua put the game beyond Sofapaka’s reach with a third in the 54th to cap a dream season-opening performance for the Coastal-based side.
Elsewhere in Thika, former Tusker FC striker Allan Wanga opened his Kakamega Homeboyz account with a 12th minute strike as the visitors edge Thika United 1-0.
Another ex-Tusker player stole the show in Kakamega as Mathare United rallied to defeat Vihiga United 2-1 at the Bukhungu Stadium.
Newly-promoted Vihiga had taken the lead in the 22nd courtesy of Dennis Wafula before Clifford Alwanga’s second half double inspired an impressive comeback win.
