Barclays Bank partners with RMS for Ndakaini Half Marathon

Barclays Bank of Kenya has partnered with the Ndakaini Environmental Conservation Association (NDEKA) in the 16th Edition of the Ndakaini Half Marathon scheduled to take place on Saturday.

The marathon which has nurtured legendary elite runners over the years is targeting 5,000 amateur runners. The half marathon will not feature prize money for elite runners this year.

Speaking during the partnership announcement, Barclays Marketing and Corporate Relations Director Caroline Ndung’u noted that the bank is keen to partner with clients and other stakeholders to advance courses that contribute to the conservation of the environment.

“We are signatories to the United Nations Global Compact and the Ndakaini Marathon initiative is in line with Sustainable Development Goal 6,which focuses on delivering clean water and sanitation. We are excited to partner with NDEKA, Royal Media Services and other partners towards making this a success,” said Carole.

Barclays bank is currently going through a transition that will see it change its name to Absa Bank Kenya Plc by June next year.

As a result, participants of the Ndakaini Half Marathon can expect to interact with the new youthful, vibrant and fun brand –Absa- whose primary color is passion red depicting the agility, resilience and enthusiasm that is the Kenyan spirit.

“Our new brand Absa is a Pan African brand, focusing on providing solutions to enable the dreams of Kenyans through our brand promise- Bringing Possibility to life.

“We acknowledge that the Ndakaini Marathon is a great platform to not only conserve the environment but also expose future Kenyan athletes who are great ambassadors of our Nation and we are excited to advance this agenda through our partnership,’ Caroline Ndungu.

‘NDEKA’s mandate is to create a suitable environment to conserve the source of the water consumed by the people of Nairobi and we have committed ourselves as a community.

We have planted more than 300,000 trees over the last 15 years of running this marathon. We now want future generations to see this initiative as a source of many possibilities and I’m sure with partners such as Absa we will make this a reality,’ NDEKA Chairman Prof. Joseph Kimura
