Berlin FC crowned North Eastern Chapa Dimba champs

Berlin FC from Garissa are the North Eastern Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Regional champions after defeating Al Ansar 4-3 in a post-match penalties.

The two sides battled to a barren draw in regulation time forcing the clash to be decided on penalties with Jafair Mohammed converting the decisive spot-kick for Berlin.

Berlin should have avoided all that shootout tension by winning the match within reguation time after they were awarded a penalty in the fourth minute but Abdi Alis attempt was saved by Al Ansar goalkeeper Hussein Abdinasir.

Berlin were the more superior side but made their dominance count for little with Abdala Marros skewing an effort wide in the 20th minute.

Al Ansar settled quicker into the second half, creating two chances in succession but striker Adow Mohammad wasted both.

Hassan Aman and Abdinasir Hassan missed their sport kicks for Al Ansar while Jafair Mohammed scored the winning penalty for Berlin.

Following the results Berlin head coach Ahamed Mohammed says his boys will now focus on winning the national finals that will be held in Meru in June after the Nairobi finals later in May.

“We played to win but we were not able to score on open play, though a win is a win.” He said.

Former  Kenyan international innocent Mutiso who is part of the tournaments brand ambassadors termed the tournament a success.

“This is a successful tournament ,these boys are lucky ,they have mentors,we never had this kind of mentorship, I can only say it’s a great initiative.” Said the former Mathare United.
