Berlin shine as Chapa Dimba kicks off in Garissa

The Regional finals of the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom youth tournament kicked off on Saturday with the semi-finals being played at the Garissa Training College Grounds (TCC) Garissa town.

In the boys semi finals, Berlin FC from Garissa was ruthless against Al Mumtaz, dispatching them 4-0 to book a final ticket.

Berlin took an early lead when Abdala Maro opened the scoresheet in the 37th minute before adding a second in extra time.

In the second half, Abdi Somo Gede and Abdi Karim Bashir scored a goal each in the 53rd and 82nd minute respectively to cement their win. As the game drew to a close, two Al Mumtaz players were sent off for foul play.

Yusuf Abdi Yusuf received a second yellow card in the 84th minute while Faid Abukar received a straight red card in the 86th minute.

With the win, Berlin FC have secured a direct ticket to the regional final set to be played tomorrow, against the winner of today’s afternoon match.

“Al Mumtaz is not a team you take for granted going by how far they have come to reach the semi-finals. The match was tough but all along we knew we were up to the task as we had trained hard for the game. We put up a good fight, which is what helped us secure the win today.

“I want to thank Safaricom for putting together this tournament for the third consecutive season and urge them to keep on transforming lives through such initiatives,” said Ahmed Mohamed, Coach, Berlin FC.

In the second boys’ semi-finals, Al Ansar from Wajir will this afternoon square it out with Admiral from Mandera.
