Beyond Zero Marathon preps hit top gear

The preparations of the 2019 Beyond Zero campaign is gathering pace with less than a week remaining to the event slated for Sunday, March 10.

According to the race Local Organising Committee (LOC) chairman Barnabas Korir, the preparations are at an advanced stage with the routes to be used already set out.

“The preparation for the marathon is going on very well, we had a meeting on Friday and everything is working out very well. The road marking is already done and was finalised on Saturday,” Korir told Citizen Digital.

Korir revealed that approximately 10,000 athletes have registered for the event that is making a comeback after missing out on the past two years.

“So far so good in terms of registration as we have more than 10,000 entrants already and we are still encouraging prospective participants to register since the bigger picture of this marathon is to support a noble course started by the First Lady,” said Korir is also Athletics Kenya (AK) Executive member and the chairman of Nairobi region.

The races to be competed in the event include; the 21km men and women, 21km wheelchair race, 10km men and women, 10km for corporates, 5km family fun race and 2km race for pregnant mothers.

“This marathon is meant to raise funds for the Beyond Zero Campaign that is meant to assist the expectant mothers after birth and also to ensure that areas that are not well endowed with medical facilities get mobile clinics,” added Korir.

The registration is done manually at the IMG Kenya offices (2nd floor, International House, Mama Ngina Street, Nairobi), Nairobi Sports House branches and at the AK offices or online on www.beyondzero.or.ke.
