KBF to engage Govt over basketball resumption

Kenya Basketball Federation(KBF) Secretary General Ambrose Kisoi says they are in talks with the Ministry of Sports over a possible quick return of basketball league after all players featuring in the federation’s top-tier league were inoculated at the weekend.

According to Kisoi, the federation had been allocated 400 doses of vaccines for Nairobi based clubs with teams based out of Nairobi getting the jab from county hospitals, adding that focus shifts to division one and two players who are yet to benefit, adding that they’ll strive to have them vaccinated in the second round.

“We are hoping the league can resume as soon as possible since we have already initiated talks with the Ministry of Sports. We are hoping the vaccination excise will boost our bargaining powers,” he said.

“The process went on well as teams came for the vaccination. Those outside Nairobi were issued with letters and they were able to be vaccinated at the county hospitals,” he added.

President Uhuru Kenyatta last month announced the suspension of Sports in a move he said was aimed at taming the rising Covid-19 cases.

Stakeholders have piled up pressure on the Government to rescind the ban citing livelihoods and the need to have national and Olympic-bound teams get the ideal preparations.
