FKF Premier League side Bidco United beat Division One side MMUST 11-10 on postmatch penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time to sail to round 32 of the FKF Cup.

With the first 10 penalties all converted, MMUST player Busaka Prince saw his effort blocked by Bidco goalkeeper Edwin Omwabani to hand victory to Akhulia’s side as Oduor Francis netted the winning goal for Bidco.

Bidco went ahead in the 27th minute through Juma Alex before Brian Okumu levelled up things for the home team in the 39th minute.

Bidco head coach Antony Akhulia introduced veteran striker Stephen Waruru in the second half but his efforts could not yield fruits in the normal time.

Omwabani produced superb double saves in the second half to deny Otieno Isaac and Hillary Amboso goals leaving the teams level after 90 minutes and forcing the game to go to penalty shootouts.

Although the game ended in defeat, MMUST head coach Charles Mwalo said his team gave the best and fought really hard.

“We were well prepared to go to the next level but as you all know during penalty shootouts anyone can win. Playing against a premier league side and giving them such a fight shows we are capable of playing in the top flight,” Mwalo said.

On his part, Bidco United head coach Antony Akhulia blamed the organizers for changing the venue at the last minute saying the ground was unplayable unlike the previous ground which was to host the match.

The match had been planned for play at Kakamega Approved School.

“Changing the venue and bringing the match to such a field gave MMUST an upper advantage. Even though they were the better side, especially playing at home . We now need to work extra hard for the next round if we want to go far,” Akhulia said.
