Bidco edge St Joseph in five-goal NSL thriller

Bidco United rose into seventh on the National Super League (NSL) standings after claiming a 3-2 victory over St. Joseph Youth in a scintillating encounter at the Thika Stadium on Saturday.

Emmanuel Onyancha, Nelson Chieta and Michael Owino scored for Bidco who conceded two penalties that were duly dispatched by Adam Fadhili.

 

Bidco United were the dominant side for the first ten minutesof the game, giving the St. Joseph defence a busy day at work with a series of dangerous attacks and shots on goal and it all paid off in the 14th minute when Chieta Nelson capitalized on Mage Martin’s free kick from about 20 yards to drive the ball onto the roof of the net.

Six minutes later, St. Joseph were caught out again, a battle for the ball just outside the box from a creative attack saw the ball fall on the feet of Owino Michael Who chipped tactically to beat goalie Muthomi Timothy who had his gloves up hoping to get a tap on the ball.

Marita Collins would have inflicted more damage on the wounded St. Joseph in the 33rd minute after a well calculated run of play on the left flank but he was met by a charging goalie who saved his team from a threatening third goal.

In the 38th minute, St. Joseph clapped back and narrowed Bidco’s lead after Adam Fadhili picked his spot well and beat goalie Okeyo Charles with the spot kick for the after a foul on a Bidco defender.

The goal from the penalty spot rejuvenated the spirits of thescorer Fa side a few minutes to the breather, Akatha Salim directing a long pass from the right flank targeting Hamisi Juma who met the ball with a header but it soared over the bar.

Goal scorer Adam Fadhili sent the home fans to the edge of their seats in the 51st minute with a well placed pass from the left wing, targeting Njoroge Stephen who was waiting in the box but goalie Okeyo Charles blocked.

Two minutes to the houe mark, a tactical build up from midfield and later to the left wing put Marita Collins in a goal scoring position but his shot veered off the post to the disappointment of the home fans.

Chieta Nelson wasted a chance to plucl more goals for the home team after goalie Muthomi Timothy denied him a penalty spot kick.

Four minutes later, Bidco were at it again, and it looked like Emmanuel Onyancha had rounded St. joseph’s woes but prolific Fadhili Adam clapped back by driving home a penalty spot kick in the 72nd minute after a foul on a Bidco defender.

Nonetheless, Bidco snatched the win at the end of the day.
