Bidco: For soon-to-be KPL newbies, retaining the top-tier status is major goal

After spending close to two decades in the Kenyan football second-tier league, NSL runners-up Bidco United have set their eyes on avoiding relegation when the 2020/21 Kenya Premier League season kicks off.

The team finished second in the 2019/20 NSL behind run-away leaders Nairobi City Stars who also sealed a Premier League return after four years in the cold.

Head coach Anthony “Vieira” Akhulia has intimated to Citizen Digital that the team’s primary focus will be to maintain their Premier League status.

“Any team that gets promoted dream of avoiding the chop and we will be after the same objective.

“The team has stayed in the NSL for close to 20 years and we will try our best to avoid going down.

“We promise our fans that we will work hard to achieve that,” he said.

He says he is monitoring the training sessions his players are having as they cannot go out to play due to the government restrictions imposed to tame the spread of the coronavirus.

“I’m in touch with all of them and I have given every one training programs that will help them stay in shape.

“This pandemic has also halted our recruitment plans as we are not in a position to evaluate our potential signings.

“At the moment we do not want to speculate because playing in the KPL demands that we have the best players in our ranks,” he added.

After missing out on promotion last term by 15 points, a consistent run of form saw the team seal promotion by finishing second behind City Stars.
