Blow as EALASCA games hang in the balance

This year’s ninth edition of East Africa Local Authority Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) which had been slated for Kampala,Uganda from December 10- 16 has been postponed under unclear circumstances.

In a letter written by Kenya Inter Counties Sports and Cultural Association national secretary Zedekiah Kabiri to the County Secretaries, and which Citizen Digital has accessed, Uganda announced that they are unable to host this year’s EALASCA championship due to “unavoidable circumstances”.

In June 2017, EALASCA Regional Executive Committee met in Kampala and the leadership of Kampala City Development Authority gladly accepted to host the annual festival in December 2017.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, the Executive Director of Kampala City Development Authority has now written to the EALASCA member countries confirming the inability of Uganda to host the games.

Kabiri, on behalf of KICOSCA, said that he regrets the decision by Uganda terming it “a big set back” because other EALASCA members had prepared their teams for the championship.

“This is regrettable and a set back of the event given that Kenya and other EALASCA members had already prepared their teams, ready to compete.”

“Subsequent to the foregoing, the EALASCA Regional Executive Committee has consulted and resolved that it is practically impossible now to hold the games as scheduled. However, further consultation are ongoing within the Regional Executive members with a possibility of holding the said event at a later date ,”Kabiri said in the letter.

Kenyan team, KICOSCA, had this week named its squad in various disciplines to represent the country in the regional competitions, days after the curtains came down on the fifth edition of the of the national competition held in Machakos.
