Blunt Blades face KPA test in KBF
Strathmore Blades head coach Tony Ochieng has said he is working to fix the team’s defensive set up after a dismal start to the new Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Classic League season.
Blades enjoyed an impressive run last term and reached the playoff semi-finals but are struggling to match that form having already lost four times in seven outings.
Ochieng’s men begin their weekend with a clash against World Hope at the Nyayo Gymnasium in Nairobi before tackling defending champions KPA – who knocked them out in last year’s playoff semis – on Sunday.
“I am working on defensive rotation, also working hard for players to have right attitude for approach of weekend fixtures; once everyone knows his role the rest will be taken care of,” Ochieng said.
Blades captain George Okoth said they will be approaching the game with a winning mentality.
“We have upped the tempo of our training sessions this week and we’re focusing on solid team defense and better execution on the offensive end,” Okoth said.
Blades may miss three key players; Micah Kiplagat, Brian Onyango and Amos Aduke who are nursing knee injuries but may be cleared.
Meanwhile KPA captain Samuel Ocholla believes their game against Blades will be one of the hardest fixtures they are en counting since they have had their rivalry for long time.
“It’s a game that has always been explosive over years but having arrived in Nairobi on Wednesday and with ample time to train and work on weak points we expect nothing but wins in both games,” Ocholla said.
