Blunt Leopards bow out of Super Cup

AFC Leopards crashed out of the ongoing Super Cup tournament on Tuesday falling 4-2 against Tanzanian Singida in a post match shoots at Afraha Stadium,Nakuru.

Wyvonne Isuza penalty miss at the 68th minute which could have handed the Kenyan side 1-0 lead proved to be costly with the tie ending 0-0 in a regulation time.

On the shoot-outs, only Ally Kenny missed for Singida  in the first take with Shafik Batambuze, Adam Miraji, Danny Lyanga and Sumbi Elynyesia scoring.

Leopards missed two of their four lotteries with Baker Lukooya hitting the crossbar while Moses Mburu struck his effort wide. Robinson Kamura and Isuza scored AFC’s efforts.

In the early stages of the second half, Ingwe looked more organized with the likes of Isuza and Kamura missing open chances and when the golden chance came eight minutes after the hour mark, Isuza’s poorly taken kick following a foul on Kamura denied the big cats the chance to take the lead.

With 15 minutes left and Singida’s confidence building courtesy of saves by  goalie Simon Manyika,  Leopards head coach Rodolfo Zapata made two changes, the ineffective George Omondi coming off for Vincent Oburu while Baker Lukooya replaced Brian Marita.

The defeat means that a dream semis pitting Leopards against eternal rivals Gor Mahia is now out of the cards, crashing the dream that had been haboured by many.

K’ogalo will now  cross swords with the Tanzania outfit on Thursday at the same venue while on Wednesday Tanzanian giants Simba SC will tackle Kakamega Homeboyz in the first last four tie at 3PM.
