Bolt beats Gatlin to retain world 100m title

Jamaican Usain Bolt beat American rival Justin Gatlin to retain his world 100m title on Sunday in one of the most watched races in the ongoing IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China.

Bolt, also the double Olympic gold medallist and world record holder in the blue riband event, ran a season’s best of 9.79 seconds, AFP reported.

Gatlin, who has served two doping bans, was just one-hundredth of a second off Bolt, taking silver in 9.80sec with fellow American Trayvon Bromell rounding out the podium, taking bronze in 9.92sec. (AFP)
