Bolt salutes Rudisha on Kingston arrival

Sprint legend Usain Bolt welcomed fellow world record holder David Rudisha to his homeland Jamaica as athletics stars converge in Kingston for Saturday’s JN Racers Grand Prix.

Rudisha, a two-time Olympic 800m champion, announced his arrival at the Jamaican capital on Twitter on Thursday morning eliciting an excited reaction from Bolt.

“Welcome Champ,” Bolt replied in his retweet of Rudisha’s post ahead of what will be his last professional race on Jamaican soil.

Bolt and Rudisha will share the spotlight with a decorated group of athletes including two other world record holders at the meet dubbed a ‘salute to the legend’.

Middle distance king Mo Farah, a double Olympic gold medallist in the 5000m and 10,000m, is among those that will be in action, along with American dual Olympic triple jump champion Christian Taylor.

Also scheduled to compete will be South African Wayde van Niekerk, who electrified the Rio Olympics with a world record of 43.03 seconds in the 400m.

Bolt will, in just over a fortnight later, lead his fellow stars to the Czech Republic for the Golden Spike event before his imminent retirement from international competitions at the London world championships in August.

Rudisha, Farah and van Niekerk are some of the other big names expected in Ostrava on June 28.
