Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto said the county government has so far pumped Sh120 million into the project whose construction started one and half years ago.

“We expect the project to cost less than Sh200 million. We are constructing it using labour-based contract which is a cheaper option,” Ruto said.

“Some of the people who have been opposing the project should visit the site and see for themselves the scope of work that has so far been undertaken.”

Ruto said the stadium which has a gymnasium would be used for athletics, football and indoor games once the construction is complete.

He stated that the county government will also put up a high altitude athletics training centre at Tegat in Bomet East Sub County to nurture talent among the youth.

“Currently, most budding and established athletes from Bomet County are training in other camps in the region. We were to make it possible for them to train here,” Ruto said.

The Jubilee government had promised to build five stadiums in various counties in their pre-election manifesto though none of the projects have kicked off.

Meru County government has also set up a stadium (Kinoru Stadium), a project which began last year.
