Brave Warriors head to Brazzaville for Military Championship

Ulinzi Warriors head coach William Balozi has called on his players to maintain high level of discipline when they represent the country in the first edition of the African Masculine Military Basketball Championship that is set to take place in Brazzaville, Congo from June 10-22.

Being the first tournament of its kind, the competition aims at providing a platform for the military personnel to showcase their skills on the court.

Speaking at the Department of Defence headquarters in Nairobi during the flag handover ceremony on Wednesday, Balozi said that his charges are not intimidated by the stiff competition expected in the tourney.

Some of the big names expected in the competition are Mali, Egypt and Angola.

“We are not intimidated but ready to battle it out as we have proved we can deliver and win such tournaments. We showcased this at the East African Military Games held in Rwanda in 2002,”Balozi charged.

Speaking to Citizen Digital at the same venue, team manager Senior Sergeant Stephen Bartilol said that the boys are ready to bring the trophy home.

In fact, Bartilol believes that his team’s recent performance against ten-time Ghana champions, Ghana Revenue Authority is a sign of his team’s maturity.

The Kenyan side lost to the visitors in a recent build-up match, but according to the team manager, they showcased a good game, impressing the opposition, and he believes it gives his side the psychological boost ahead of the Brazzaville assignment.
