Brilliant Gor beat a good team- Assad TM Vumbi
SS Assad team manager Habib Vumbi has hailed his charges for ‘playing brilliantly’ against Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia on Sunday, despite succumbing to a 5-1 defeat in the FKF Shield round of 64 match.
Vumbi noted the Mombasa based FKF National Division One League side gave it all but a superior Gor found it easy against a ‘weakened side.’
According to the TM, almost his entire team is observing holy Ramadan fast hence the early burnout in the clash.
“We played well. We showed we had not just something to offer but a lot against Gor. Although they were better in many aspects, my players were unable to keep up with Gor’s speed knowing they have been skipping meals since the start of Ramadan,” observed the TM.
Gor’s Dylan Kerr said Assad gave them an entertaining match, lauding special talent in the little known team.
“I have seen very good players in the team than I expected. Of course we knew they (Assad)would fight hard because they were playing a big team, so we had to be approach them with the seriousness they deserved,” told Kerr.
Gor fielded a largely second team with most of the key members featuring in the Harambee Stars twin international friendlies (Friday’s Swaziland and Monday’s Equatorial Guinea.
Having cleared the first hurdle, Gor will wait to know their next opponent (in the round of 32) after the other teams round of 64 matches in the weekend of June 2-3.
